March 6, 2010 Norm’s Workshop – Thornhill Ontario

What a great opportunity, Kristen J. the current Miss Teen Canada attended the monthly workshop and we tried as many variations as we could think of. The warm weather even made it possible to shoot outdoors. Lots of outfits and looks, this model was a real pleasure to photograph.

Norm’s Feb 6th workshop was one of the busiest to date with lots of models,makeup artists/stylists, and photographers not to mention the first class lunch served by Barb and the gang. Here’s a few out takes of the days activities….

Study the images below to get an idea of how the images on this page were lit. The brown mottled backdrop was lit with a red gel off to the right.The main light is the large soft box situated at the left corner of the setup and the opposing reflector provides fill. High above is a Metz flash for a hair light.

Favorite Mirror Shots

Lots of work to set up but very simple to light. A large 3×4 foot mirror is suspended on a heavy duty light stand and clamped down with a grip head. The mirror has a 4″ wide flat frame all around it. All shots done against a black background with a black-out hung dirctly across from the model to fill in the reflection behind her.

3 lights, two 4′ spokless umbrellas (main and fill) and a tiny soft box hair light boomed above. Studio and location.

Thanks to Ben for use of his beautiful BMW.

Couldn’t pass this opportunity up. At a recent workshop Ben dropped by in his super shiny BMW. As luck would have it Alex had on her “little black dress” What a perfect combination. We positioned the vehicle in the little bit of shade with the light coming behind the model most of the time. As always, lit via flash off camera.

Simple 3 light setup, 5′ Octabox for Main Light, 4′ Umbrella for Fill Light, and a small 200 ws strobe fitted with 30 degree grid directly behind the model. My favorite setup, shot against a simple black twill backdrop.
